Students are required to give detailed written analysis of specific vocal characteristics such as: melisma and or embellishment, pitch accuracy, range and register, tone colour, dynamics, phrasing as well as the overall vocal approach (e.g. smooth and breathy, use of multi-onsets, often constricted, a staccato or glottal approach, great contour and line very lyrical, etc.). Students are also encouraged to briefly include written analysis about rhythmic aspects (time feel and groove), vocal interpretation and expression, harmony, improvisation and instrumentation. All work must be properly referenced with citations and presentation is important.
Must include the use of musical terms and vocal language. entries must be detailed and highly developed in critical thinking. Demonstration of a high level of aural discrimination that is highly developed accompanied by strong skills and sound artistic judgement.
