These aspects need to be addressed in the critique of the unit:

• Why was this unit chosen?
• What is the ‘topic’ the unit targets and how does it integrate the learning experiences through a/the focus question/s?
• Does it identify any generalisations (big ideas) that will be investigated in the learning? If so, what are they? If not, what would they be ie write 4 or 5 “big ideas/deep conceptual understandings” in sentences that you would want the students to develop?
• List any contributing questions that guide the students’ learning experiences in the unit.
• List the activities that link to each of the outcomes and associated indicators and describe in some detail what you will be looking for in the students’ work, and at what standard.
• From the list of learning experiences describe in detail, and using an inquiry approach, then justify at least 3 appropriate and improved opportunities that you would include/modify in this unit of work if you were to teach it to the class described by you. Include the specific resources you will use and ensure at least one experience has real life application.
• Explain the theoretical framework that underpins the pedagogical approach used in the sequence of learning experiences.
