Part A – Oral presentation requirements (10 marks)
In tutorial weeks 8, 9, and 10 internal students will be allocated to present to the class the following aspects of their assignment:
Provide a brief introduction to the worksite, the major hazard and describe ONE aspect of that organisation’s culture* which in your view is driving or hindering this organisation’s safety or health performance. Describe the impact that this aspect is having on workplace safety.
note there are 9 drivers of safety and health culture identified on Archer page 331-341 based on Reason, J. 1997 Managing the Risks of Organizational Accidents, Ashgate UK
If there are issues of confidentiality in this worksite please discuss these with your tutor. Please be aware of the need for ethical consideration of confidentiality in the worksite you choose.
All students (no matter what the presentation date) must submit their powerpoint presentation to Gradebook by the due date (1/5/12). Please note that in the interests of fairness to all students NO AMENDMENTS can be made to presentation slides. Penalties for late submissions will include 1 mark for every 12 hours late. Also you will be precluded from attending other student presentations.
This is a 10 minute presentation and visuals (presentation slides) are required. Content = 6 marks and presentation technique (interest, professional presentation) =4 marks. Your presentation mark will be added into your written report and is a compulsory component. If you do not present this component of your report, your report will not be accepted. Your tutor will allocate a time for you to present in tutorial week 5, you are responsible for ensuring you are aware of the allocated time. Failure to attend at the specified time will result in 0 marks. Only in extremely exceptional circumstances will students be able to postpone their presentations, if a student is ill on the day or a few days before the presentation they will be required to email to their tutor soon as the problem arises. A medical certificate will be required.
