1. Introduction
Special-purpose microprocessors, such as the TMS320 family, have been used in
digital signal processing since the early 1980s, when such devices were first
introduced. These fast single-chip digital signal processors (DSPs) have instruction sets
which are specifically designed for efficient implementation of digital signal
processing algorithms. The TMS320 family optimises speed by implementing functions
in hardware that many other processors implement through software or microcode.
2. Objectives
The main purpose of this laboratory session is to familiarise the students with
the key points, which are important in using a digital signal processing development
system such; for example the TMS320C6713 DSK board. These points can be
summarised as follows:
(1) To edit a C program using a text editor.
(2) To compile and link the C program using the relevant options; and to
prepare and understand the necessary files.
(3) To download the program into the TMS320C6713 DSK board and execute
the program.
(4) To understand the debugging facility which is very important during the
development and testing stages of any application software.
