Debate Presentation
Presentation Length: 3 minutes per speaker;
Written Summary: 1-page outline
Each debate will last about 20 minutes, with each presenter having 3 minutes to present their points, with 4 minutes for the final speaker on each side. You will be assigned one topic as a part of a team that will be required to argue for or against a particular topic.
To be successful in a debate, you must work together as a team both in preparing arguments and deciding who will make what points and on the day itself, as you respond to what the opposing team is arguing (called rebuttal). Success requires good communication between team members and clear points being made by each speaker.
Requirements: You will need to prepare for the debate with your team. On the day of the debate you will individually hand in a 1-page outline of the points that you will be making, with references and key quotes you might use. You will also give your presentation as part of the in-class debate.
Grading Criteria: The assignment will be marked out of 10. You will be assessed on the following components and a more detailed marking guide is available on the LMS.
(1) One-page summary (40%). This should be done individually.
Highlights your key point(s) and supporting examples in order to be presented.
This is NOT a script.
Include references, key facts and essential information.
Bullet points can be used where appropriate, but should not take up the whole page. Please use a 10pt font as a minimum standard.
Include your name, topic, side and tutorial session on the page.
(2) Individual presentation and delivery of your arguments (4 pts).
