Your task is to research the career of an individual whom you know personally and admire. You should then analyze their career using your knowledge of career theory. You should start by arranging to interview the person you have chosen. You should then write a detailed description and analysis of their career. It may help you to include some selected quotes from the interview to illustrate any key points, and you should use academic references wherever possible to help link your analysis to published academic research on careers. To help you with your analysis, drawing on your knowledge of the theory of careers, you should answer the following questions. 1. How does your chosen individual define career? Which, if any, of the published definitions of career best fits? 2. Identify both the objective and the subjective aspects of their career. 3. Which, if any, of the various forms of career – bureaucratic, portfolio, professional, entrepreneurial ? can be seen in the career of this individual? 4. What or who has helped and hindered the career development of your chosen individual ? 5. Who or what has most influenced their career choices? 6. Develop a metaphor (or metaphors) to help describe this career and explain how it fits the career of your chosen individual. 7. Finally, reflect on what you have learned from your chosen individual which will be useful to you as you develop your own career. Your report should be around 1500 words, excluding references. Please make sure you complete all the above points and answer all the questions. Please also provide a bibliography listing any books and journal articles you have used.
