The report should include a relevant spread-sheet (either for the production of suitable charts or the completion of calculations – with spread-sheet formulae identified).

Item 1: The follow is required:

Each question written out
Explain the problem and any assumptions made.
Explain the method used to solve the problem.
Apply mathematical processes to obtain a solution: Evidence provided showing the collection and use of information.
A short sentence ending each problem.
Use of suitable formula or formulae.
Use of correct units.
Describe one other real life/vocational application of the mathematics in the activity.
Write some reflections on the problem. Include your thoughts and ideas on your learning in the topic, difficulties you had and what you did about them, what you still find difficult, how you have improved your understanding of the topic.

All the above is required for each question there is 4 questions

Q1) Penny wants to buy a new mountain bike costing $420. She earns $7.50 an hour working part-time at a department store. If she saves all that she earns, how many hours will she have to work before she has enough money to buy the bike?

Q2) Terry is a weightlifter. If he doubled his weight and then put on another 7kg, he would move into the heavyweight 117kg division. What is his present weight?

Q3) Mr and Mrs Latte won $5500 in a lottery. They divided it between their three children so that Jess received $100 more than Mary, and Donna received twice as much as Mary. How much did each one received? (Hint: let Mary’s share be x)

Q4) Felix spent three nights at a hotel and seven nights at a motel, for a total cost of $1105. If the motel costs twice as much as per night as the hotel, find the cost of one night’s accommodation at the hotel.

Item 2: The follow is required:

All the above is required for this question:

Q1) A yacht sails on a bearing of 105 (degrees) from Jervis Bay and travels for 8km. How far will it now have to sail along a bearing of 060 (degrees) so that it is due east of Jervis bay? (answer to the nearest meter).

Item 3: The follow is required:
Each question written out
Explain the problem and any assumptions made.
Explain the method used to solve the problem.
Apply mathematical processes to obtain a solution: Evidence provided showing the collection and use of information.
A short sentence ending each problem.
Use of suitable formula or formulae.
Use of correct units.
Use technology to produce a diagram, table or graph.
Correctly label graphs and diagrams, include headings, use correct notation, show formulae including any spread-sheet formulas used.
Make appropriate choice of format (method of presentation)
Describe one other real life/vocational application of the mathematics in the activity.
Write some reflections on the problem. Include your thoughts and ideas on your learning in the topic, difficulties you had and what you did about them, what you still find difficult, how you have improved your understanding of the topic.
All the above is required for this question:
The problem: In a meeting each person has to shake hands with every other person. For this problem allow 5 seconds for each handshake.
The Method: to solve the problem we need to:
1) Consider the number of handshakes for 3,4,5 and so on, people.
2) Extend the problem to 10,20,30,40,50 people by working out a general formula.
This is to be given in terms of H, the number of handshakes, and n, the number of people.
Ie: H=
Draw up a table showing these results.
3) Consider now the time taken for these numbers of people to shake hands. Ie. 3,4,5 and 10,20,30,40,50 people. Add another table or column to the previous table. (must be worked out in hours, minutes and seconds)
4) Also by using this formula, in reverse, calculate how many people were at a meeting where 1891 handshakes took place. Also calculate how long this took.

Write up your findings including all of the above answers and give an answer to the problem.
Now I have already worked out the formula it is: H=n(n-1) over (divide) 2.

If you have any questions please ask and I will try to answer. I look forward to your work.
