You could approach a non-profit organization in your community, and offer to solicit donations for it. Perhaps there is a non-profit organization that you or friends are active in or an organization that you would like to help. This doesn’t need to be a charity—groups to consider are business associations, chambers of commerce, school groups, and community groups. The project will be easier to complete if the group has a specific need or objective. You could solicit monetary donations or gifts in kind such as items for an upcoming auction. Provide the organization with the overview of the assignments, so that it understands that you will need to make actual sales calls for it.
C. Submit Your Assignment Plan to Your Open Learning Faculty Member
Once you have chosen your product/service, write an assignment plan (approx. 400 words) that briefly includes the following. Please use the headings provided below and present your ideas clearly.
Product/Service Choice: This is the name of the product or service that you will be using for your assignments. Include a brief description of what the product or service is, why you have chosen it, and the product or service website, if available.
Assignment 2/Module 2: Product Overview: Write a product overview that describes the product or service that you will sell. Include where you will get the information you need on the product, the features, the value proposition, and other relevant information. If you work for the company or organization, this will be straightforward. If you don’t work for it, offer a comment on the quality of its website and its publicly available product literature. If this information isn’t detailed enough, can you get interviews with salespeople or other insiders?
Assignment 3/Module 3: Develop a Prospect List: You will plan how to develop a list of qualified prospects for your product or service. Your final list will need to include actual names of at least thirty qualified prospects. You will need to use real sources for your list, set criteria that you can use to qualify them, and build a list including information about them. You need to choose an organization that you understand well enough to do this or be confident that your contacts in the organization can help get you started. This list must be created by you, not to be obtained from your organization or other sources, to avoid plagiarism.
Assignment 4/Module 4: Prepare a Sales Presentation: You will plan to prepare a real sales presentation. You will create multiple scripts for telephone and email, questions that you could use to advance the sale, and a minimum ten-slide PowerPoint presentation and sales script to accompany it. How to gather detailed, meaningful information about your product or service that could actually convert a prospect to a sale?
Assignment 5/Module 5: Do a Sales Presentation and Report: In the actual assignment, you will need to complete a minimum of three and a maximum of five actual sales calls. You will use the materials you prepared in this and previous assignments, and you will complete a call report after you complete each call. Now, think about how to approach an organization for this exercise that is willing to have you represent it with actual potential customers.
Your Open Learning Faculty Member will respond to your submission and inform you whether or not your choice has been approved. He or she may also provide you some guidance or advice to keep in mind as you work through the assignments. The more thoughtful and complete your Integrated Assignment Plan, the more useful the feedback you receive will be.
Although this is not a graded assignment, be sure to adhere to all of the standards for professional business writing—if your Open Learning Faculty Member cannot understand your submission because of spelling and grammar problems, you will miss the opportunity for feedback, and your choice may not be approved.
