This project will be writing a critical essay on one of the themes of Hamlet by evaluating the text, selecting a topic, finding evidence, and creating an outline and thesis statement along with a conclusion, parenthetical citations and works cited page. We are expected to use references and quotations from the play to defend our thesis. This is not a plot summary, we are to assume the audience has read Hamlet. We are exploring the text and the end result will be a thoughtful evaluation of some aspect of the play. We like the topic of “Justice – How do you do the right thing when you don’t know what it is?” and “Exploring Hamlet’s indecision; why does he prolong killing his uncle?”
First, the teacher wants to see a thesis statement, introduction & outline including the thesis statement, main points, sub-points & conclusion – it needs to be teacher approved before the Critical Essay is submitted. There must also be a works cited page along with parenthetical citations. The introduction is to include the thesis statement and in addition there needs to be a conclusion. All is to be formatted in MLA and 12pt black font in Arial or Times New Roman. Any plagiarism results in an automatic failure.
