While drafting, refer to Chapters 6 +7 of the textbook.
Strong essays will:
• Involve a topic that is appropriately narrow for a 4-5 page literature review.
• Provide context for, respond to and raise issues within the academic conversation surrounding the topic.
• Exhibit a thorough knowledge of the scholarly research surrounding the topic.
• Include summary and synthesis of at least six scholarly sources.
• Offer a thesis statement appropriate to a literature review.
• Exhibit a solid organizational structure, both at the global level (i.e. the entire essay) and the sentence level (i.e. topic sentences + paragraph organization).
• Exhibit signs of proofreading, editing, and revising for organizational, grammatical, punctuation, mechanical, and citation errors in addition to revisions associated with the aforementioned criteria.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the appropriate uses of paraphrasing and direct quotation.
• Follow MLA guidelines for formatting and citation.
