CHW’s could be the link that connects the community to the formal health care system. The community health worker could provide a vital piece in the goal to establish a broader approach that incorporates both the social and environmental factors that impact health.
More research studies are needed to weigh both the effectiveness of health care and the quality of care provided by CHWs as paralleled to professional health care providers in the fields of health education, promotion and management of specific health problems.
