There are many ways to advocate for a public health issue and many different individuals or groups to whom you could turn in order to shape policies impacting it. For example, if you wish to advocate for policies to lower childhood obesity rates, you might approach your state legislator to educate him or her about a proposed health issue or intervention. You might address a neighborhood group to get new playground equipment, or turn to a parent organization to gain support for an educational program at school. You might approach a newspaper or editorial board to publish an article advocating for your cause, or a professional association to encourage them to make this a greater focus in their own activities. You might even help to organize others in the community such as parent groups, in their own advocacy efforts such as letter-writing campaigns.
