Research in memory and cognition is motivated by both applied and theoretical goals. One applied area of cognitive psychology that has particularly important implications for students is research investigating the best way to study in order to maximize learning and long term retention. This is an area of research that takes the basic goal of understanding memory and cognition and applies it to a particular context (i.e., studying). In your paper “How to Study According to Cognitive Psychologists” you will summarize recent research on this issue. The papers you will draw from are included below.

Your paper must summarize research investigating the best ways to study according to cognitive psychologists. This does not mean that you will describe exactly what ever researcher has done – in fact, do NOT describe the experiments, please!!!!! – but you will summarize the findings of the articles you read and explain how they tell you what the best ways to study are according to cognitive psychologists.
Your paper should include concrete suggestions about the best ways to study (i.e., another student who has not read the research could pick up your paper and learn the best ways to study).
This is to be a formal paper, however, and should not be written with casual language. It must be written using correct grammar, punctuation, and word usage, and it must be APA style. You must cite all five of the papers below and demonstrate (within your paper) that you understand the material presented in the papers. This is one reason why you cannot quote more than once – if you quote, I can’t judge whether you understand the material. Further, it is contrary to what APA requires, no matter what you have done in previous classes.
