It should consist of a research project drawing upon (1) your learning (about the environment, geopolitics, oil, Islam, conflict, and war), (2) your critical thinking (about the what, why, how, and who in the various issues and problems examined), and (3) your own vision (about how to promote a positive relationship between the American people and the peoples of the Middle East). Second, once your proposal is accepted, you write a three-page (single-spaced, 1500 to 1600 words) essay that follows carefully the format specified in the Guidelines and Instructions for the Critical Thinking Essay included in the course syllabus. Essay 5 is worth 9 points (9 percent of your final grade). It should be persuasive, well written, and well documented.
