From professor: We have all heard of generational terms such as Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y, Millennial, etc. These are all terms that were created to define a generation or group of people born into a specific time frame. They are meant to persuade people that this particular group of people can be represented by a specific stereotype. Perhaps the majority of one such group watches certain movies, view work and play in a particular way, listen to a certain type of music, etc. Obviously the description is more of a stereotype than 100% accurate but there is generally something to the criteria being presented.
Keeping this in mind, for this assignment you will be creating your own definitional term for a group of people based on the decade in which they were born. Be creative and have fun with this! Really try and delve into this assignment while also critically analyzing the aspects that unite this certain group of people.
The actual way in which you present this information is up to your group. You can create a power point or a word document as long as the following is covered.
Initial Brainstorming List: Make a list of the following
3 positive qualities, 3 values, and 3 negative qualities your group identifies in your chosen generation.
From your compiled list you will then develop an intro that includes a clear Thesis Statement. This should be between 6-12 sentences and creatively engage the audience while also making a statement about the decade chosen. You will also want to develop a title for your decade based on this statement! Again, be creative!
Finally you will develop a list (criteria) of 10 statements that fully defines your generation. This list can be humorous or serious just remain consistent with your intro so your reader knows what tone you are taking. Below are three possible sample statements for various generations.
Children born in the 2000?s are inevitably tied to technology in all they do.
People born in the 1980?s were programmed to watch the hit T.V. show Saved by the Bell by the time they reached puberty.
People born in the 1950?s have a shared desire to work hard in all they do.
