Effective written communication skills are essential to the role of the professional. Five (5) nursing peer reviewed journal articles (2007+) are the expectation. The required text for this course or other courses may be used but the text is not considered a journal. This paper is graded according to APA guidelines 6th ed. and the Scholarly Paper Writing Rubric.
The following components are to be included:
1.Title page, (APA format) Page not counted in the total page number.
2.Abstract (APA format) Page not counted in the total page number.
3.Introduction: Introduce your topic as a heading titled Introduction. To write this section, keep the topic narrow and think about why the topic is important to nursing and focus on nursing care. Use statistics to support your claims or warrants. These are just examples to get you started. Introduce your topic and discuss thoroughly. Grading, using the writing rubric, will take into consideration how well the topic is presented. (This section should be approximately 1 – 2 pages and is included in the total number of pages)
4. Body: Use headings to separate concepts related to the topic you are writing about. An outline of your written work will serve to identify these headings. Use appropriate APA heading guidelines. Compare and contrast the issues, discuss different viewpoints, analyze the concern and impact on nursing or nursing care. The nursing process fits well here. These are just examples to get your started. Develop your position and the information on the topic completely. Make sure you explain an importance for nursing care. (How might nursing change to improve care to the elderly?) Grading, using the writing rubric, will take into consideration how well this is presented. All references listed at the end of the paper are to be cited within the written work. Safe assignment is used to identify plagiarism. Direct quotes are expected to be cited correctly; include author, date, and page number; limited to three (3); and no more than 20% of the total word count. (This section should be approximately 6 to 13 pages and is included in the total number of pages)
5. Summary/Conclusion: Summarize important issues previously presented about the topic in the written work.
