The Brief
A small UK-based textiles research company has received excellent reviews during British
Fashion Week where it showcased its range of fabrics made from recycled fibres. The company
has invented a process to create a new fabric from recycled textiles recovered from worn out
old clothes donated to charity shops.
The company has received enquiries from several major fashion designers who are keen to use
the recycled fabric in their products. A major on �line clothing retailer specializing in ethical
products has also expressed interest in selling products made from the recycled material.
The small textiles research company cannot manufacture the fabric itself. The textiles company
needs you to prepare a report (maximum 4000 words) that makes clear the following areas:
� Identification of the specific types of intellectual property that the company should seek to
protect
� A plan of action, including milestones and development of suitable licensing agreements
with key supply chain partners, outlining the commercialization process.
� An indication of how the success of the commercialisation process could be measured.
You should use examples from UK fashion and appropriate theoretical frameworks to illustrate
your answer.
