Take an event, experience, person(ality), or situation from your own life experience. Analyze the aforementioned from one of the perspectives listed below. Describe your subject, event or situation. Identify your approach. Give a brief explanation of this approach’s view of human behavior, including major emphases. Then apply your approach to your subject. Attempt to use the language and concepts associated with your chosen perspective. Avoid mixing approaches or concepts. You are to use only one of the following perspectives/approaches:
1. Behavioral 2. Cognitive 3. Humanistic 4. Psychoanalytic
Required Format (by paragraph):
1. Briefly describe your subject, situation, etc. in your own words. There should be nothing particularly psychological in this paragraph (a couple of sentences maximum).
2. IDENTIFY YOUR PERSPECTIVE/APPROACH and give a brief summary of how this approach understands and explains behavior. This section might include basic assumptions about human nature. This section must include terminology and concepts central to the psychological perspective, and you must demonstrate some understanding of the concepts. Optimally, your explanation should cover THREE key points in the perspective.
3. Now apply concepts from your chosen perspective to your subject identified in part 1. Make explicit connections between the approach and the personally experienced event. Try to be specific as you apply concepts. This third section is challenging. Be careful to restrict your interpretations here to ONLY YOUR CHOSEN PSYCHOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE. Choose your terms/concepts carefully.
General Guidelines:
1. Papers are to be typed, double-spaced (NO MORE THAN TWO PAGES IN LENGTH). Handwritten papers will receive no more than one-half credit. PLEASE STAPLE PAGES TOGETHER.
2. Personal information shared in papers is confidential.
3. Feel free to discuss any questions or difficulties with me.
4. One point per day will be deducted for late papers.
5. Poorly written papers (i.e., those showing severe writing problems) will be returned w/out a grade and a rewrite will be required.
Summary of Grading on Writing Project:
Explaining basics of psych. approach. 5 pts.
Application of approach, use of concepts, terms. 10 pts.
Clarity of writing, grammar, spelling 5 pts.
