ASSIGNMENT: Chapter 27 is designed to help students begin to understand the conceptual knowledge in the text and how this knowledge is used in actual practice. Your challenge with this assignment is to read chapter 27 and respond to the following questions:
State the NASW definition of social work (chapter 3) and describe how the work of Bob Pla does or does not reflect that perception of social work.
Describe the human service agency in which Bob Pla was employed. For example, what was its purpose? Was it public or private? Were the services safety net or social utilities (or both) in concept? Who determined its policies? Why did you reach these conclusions?
Identify and describe the two most important direct service competencies and the two most important indirect service competencies (chapter 9) Bob Pla used in performing his work with the case. Give your reasons for selecting these particular competencies as most important.
Identify one value conflict OR ethical issue Bob Pla appeared to experience in this case situation. Critique his handling of that conflict or issue.
Social workers must build cultural competence to serve people of different backgrounds in culturally diverse communities. Give 2-3 examples of how the social worker, Bob Pla, recognized the role of culture and cultural influences.
Paper Requirements and Grading: each question is worth 30 points
Graded based on your comprehension of the course material, writing is clear and technically correct (i.e. spelling, grammar, style, etc.) and your ability to reflect solid mastery of the material. Make sure to use social work terminology in your responses.
The paper should be a minimum of 4 pages, DOUBLE-SPACED with 1” margins all around and no more than 5 pages. I will NOT read beyond 5 pages so be concise with your responses.
