Discuss the following from Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.
1. Marlow’s description of his visit to the Company’s office in the "sepulchre city" contains many interesting points, all of which could be described as foreshadowing coming experiences for the naive young man. For one thing, there is that whole oddity with the doctor, who asks to measure Marlow’s head.
2. It’s easy to forget that we have a narrator relating the story to us as he heard it from Marlow on the Nellie. Have you given any thought to the impact of Marlow’s story on the character known only as the Narrator?

Throughout the story, we obviously have many images of black and white. In some cases, though, black or dark is not always ominous or evil, and white doesn’t always represent any of the positive things typical of white and light. The ivory, for example, is white but represents one of the most awful aspects of European Imperialism: Giant animals that normally live very long lives were slaughtered for their tusks.
