Write the draft of your essay in a good word processor, making use of spell check and grammar check. Save your document as a .doc or .docx file, not as a .txt or .rtf file.
Other than using a short quotation or two from the article in your reader, research is not allowed for this assignment. If you decide to use a quotation (it’s totally up to you), introduce it with the author’s name and the title of the article. This is called an introductory signal. Put the title of the article and the quotation in quotation marks. After you close the quotation marks for the quotation itself, put the page number the quotation is on in parentheses. Notice the placement of quotation marks, the period, and the comma after the introductory signal. Here’s a sample of a short quotation with its introduction:
Example: According to Barbara Kingsolver in her article “Fresh Water,” “Water
is the ultimate commons” (7).
Do not exceed one or two short quotation because that will put you over the allowed quotation percentage for the assignment, 10%. See the information about the TurnItIn dropbox below.
Revising Your Work in Criterion (Trait Feedback Analysis):
Copy and paste your draft into Criterion (Criterion does not allow uploads). Click the submit button. Criterion will analyze your writing and apply a holistic score of 1 to 6 for the paper. Get suggestion for revision from Criterion by clicking on the “Trait Feedback Analysis” button in the lower left corner of the screen. Click on all the links for each tab in the Analysis to get all the suggestions. After clicking on a link, put your cursor over the highlighted text in your essay to read the suggestion.
A revision is completed when all the links listed under all the tabs have been addressed. The suggestions for revision are only recommendations; it is up to each student as the author of his or her essay to make the final decisions about what to change, how to change it, and what to leave as is.
Make changes and submit the paper again to get more suggestions and, hopefully, a higher rubric score. You can resubmit as many times as you want up to the deadline in Angel.
