Your assignment is to select a current event and to analyze it by using one of the three sociological perspectives (Functionalism, Social Conflict, and Symbolic Interactionism) covered in chapter 1. Newspaper articles, news magazines (i.e., Newsweek, Time magazine), and professional journal articles are valid sources for your project. You can also use an article from a valid website but note that you must provide a link in your bibliography Here are the guidelines:
1. Once you’ve decided on an article, briefly summarize the content of the article in your own words.
2. Analyze the main issue/problem using one or all three Sociological Perspectives (Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Symbolic Interaction). Very important that you begin by establishing your understanding of the theoretical perspective in your own words. Feel free to use headings for each perspective you are analyzing.
3. Your project must be no less than 5 full pages long and no more than 7 pages long. Failing to turn in project less than 5 complete pages long will result in a substantial reduction on your grade for the project – your works cited page does not count toward the minimum 5-7 pages.
The article must be on a current event, and you must include a link to the article used in your works cited page.
