2 Research question and context (500 words)
Introduce your project.
What is your research question or problem? What are your aims and objectives? What kind of research question are you asking (is it primarily theoretical, problem oriented, curiosity driven)? Why are you asking this question? Why is it relevant and timely to do so now? What makes this a sociologically interesting question?- how does your proposed project relate to existing research?
3 Research design and methodology (500 words)
You have twelve person-months to spend on this project. What are you going to do in this time? Describe specific research methods (interviews, surveys, observation etc), explain why you chose these methods and how the method relates to your theoretical orientation. What is your sampling strategy? What other resources will you need? (List and explain). How will you analyze the resulting data and what do you expect to learn?
Provide a timetable showing what you will be doing in each of the twelve months.
4 Output, audience and dissemination (250 words)
Who, other than you, would be interested in the results of this research? Why might this research be interesting? How will you promote your research to relevant non-academic as will as academic audiences?
In what form will you present your research results?
5 Justification (250 words)
Explain why the research council should fund you to do this project. Remember, this is a competitive process. Make your case. Sell your ideas, pitch your project.
