Rationale: The aim of this paper is to challenge you to apply the concepts, terms, stages, phenomena, etc. that we have read about and discussed in class to real world examples. By identifying and articulating examples of these complex concepts, students gain a richer and more thorough understanding of how various aspects of human development relate to their own lives.
Description: Choose one of the life stages (identified in the stage theory slide) we have discussed thus far in class (e.g. middle childhood, adolescence, emerging adulthood, etc.) and discuss how your own development compares and contrasts with an individual, group, culture, or society that is different from yours. Specifically, you should identify your own group identity (from Sue & Sue’s Tripartite Model) and give specific examples of how your development within this life stage was similar or different to another specific group or person. For instance, you may compare aspects of your social development to another specific individual’s social development (a friend, roommate, relative, etc.) or a general group that has a different identity. Please be sure to discuss each aspect of development in this stage (physical, cognitive, social, emotional, cultural).
In addition to your textbook and class notes, you are required to use at least three outside sources, at least two of which must be academic in nature (e.g. journal article, research study, etc.). Other sources (e.g. movies, magazine articles, websites, etc.) may be used but DO NOT count toward your two required academic sources. The length limit for this paper is 3000 words. This paper should be in APA format. Please use 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced with one-inch margins. Submissions should be made through SafeAssign via Blackboard. Hard copies will not be accepted.
