The concept of Advance Nursing Practice remains ambiguous and difficult to define both Nationally and Internationally. In this assignment you are asked to critically analyse the literature in relation to the history, role and evaluation of advance nursing practice
In performing this activity you should develop a deep understanding (Benner 1984) of the concept of advance practice.
A literature review provides background information that will help to guide your research. It determines what is already known about a topic and what remains unanswered. A literature review includes a description of both the research and theoretical literature related to your topic of interest. It includes your critical appraisal of the literature that identifies strengths and weaknesses of previous research and theories.
The major goal of a review of the literature is to develop a strong knowledge base. The purposes of the literature review are summarised below:
o determines what is known and not known about a topic;
o discovers conceptual traditions and frameworks used to examine problems;
o describes strength and weaknesses of previous research;
o uncovers information to guide professional practice;
