Students are to choose a historical figure from a list at the end of this section and write at minimum a two page (typed, double-space) essay on that individual. The following questions should be answered in your essay: Why did you choose this particular individual from the list as a topic for your paper? Based on your research, what were the goals of this particular individual? What personal events and factors influenced his course of action? What motivated this person to take the actions that he undertook? Do you think the individual was successful in pursuing his goals, why or why not? What do you consider to be the individual’s most important contributions to World History (good or bad)? Overall, did you admire this person-why or why not? Most of your essay should be devoted to answering these questions rather than biographical account.
Papers must include a cover sheet with the title of the paper, name, course, section number, and date. There is no reason to repeat this information on the second sheet. There is to be no graphic art work on your cover sheet. Each page of the essay should have standard top and bottom margins and standard font (Times New Roman, 12-inch font). Papers should be doubled-space. No spacing between paragraphs and sections of your paper. The questions are to be answered in the body of your essay-do not write out the questions and then answer them. The paper should be written as a coherent whole. Absolutely, no handwritten papers will be accepted! Failure to follow any of the preceding directions will result in a deduction from your grade.
You must demonstrate in your essay that you used at least two sources outside of your text and class outline by citing parenthetically in text. Only one of these sources can be an internet article. At the end of your essay, you must formally list these sources on a page entitled References (APA style). If you use an Internet article, you must give in your citations the specific web address (not yahoo.com, or google.com, or a links web page).
This paper should express your own words and thoughts, and written in your own words. If it is found that you copied from an outside source or worked on this paper with another student, you will receive a grade of “F” on your paper. This is an individual project, not a group project. Students are not to work on the paper together.
The paper is not to be in a folder.
The paper must be stapled. The instructor does not carry a stapler with him, nor does he have knowledge where one can be located. Failure to have your paper stapled will result in a deduction from your overall grade.
Failure to obey any of the above directions will result in a deduction of your grade.
