Discussing the leadership and authority issues/challenges portrayed in the assigned film. The paper is due on Saturday, June 1st by midnight via the dropbox.
The following questions should guide your reflections, though the paper should not be structured as a Q&A but as a formal academic paper. Although it will be necessary to support assertions with data from the film, do not spend time in the paper summarizing the film.
Questions that should be answered in your paper:
1. What is the purpose(s) of the group/organization/ society as portrayed in selected film? What are some of the tasks which flow from the purpose(s)? How does the role of primary character(s) fit into the purpose? What is their perspective on the purpose?
2. Discuss the adaptive challenge being faced in the film. Consider the perspective of the adaptive challenge from several different stakeholder points of view.
3. Cite specific instances of formal authority including how the social functions of authority were taken up.
4. Cite specific instances of ways in which leadership was exercised (and by whom)?
5. Discuss how the system engaged the role of certain characters and identify specific instances where informal authority was gained and/or lost. What were the implications for formal authority?
6. Identify instances in which adaptive challenges were treated as technical challenges. What work avoidance mechanisms were used? How were groups mobilized to address the adaptive challenge?
7. Are there other theories or concepts from the class that you can connect to the film?
