The Lone Wolf terrorism organizations and their violent activities had significant increased over the last two decades and these groups represent one of these

not acting on behalf of any terrorist organization or foreign power” (Lesson notes). In order to confront and defeat lone wolf terrorist is essential to understand
their characteristics, organization, and what had contributed to their proliferation.
As many expert indicated, I consider that the technology advantages (ex. media attention, internet) has been the biggest contributor to the increased of lone wolf
terrorism. Thompson (2013) described that internet “has led to proliferation of lone wolves and allowed for anybody with a laptop or smart phone to quickly become
knowledgeable about terrorist tactics, targets, and weapons” (p.2). Feldman (2013) also added, “Has undoubtedly been a godsend for the individual terrorist”. This is
statement is due to several factors the internet and social media has allowed lone wolf to easy gather and disseminate information between members and learned
tactics from well know and organized terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda. In addition, the internet had proven to be an effective recruiting tool for the organization.
To plan and establish a good strategy to combating lone wolf terrorism will be challenging for numerous characteristic. These groups lacked of a good leadership
structure and their conduct minimum planning for their attacks. There also very difficult to predict their movements, tactics, and potential target because they are
reactive and adapt to different situations. “Lone wolf activity is an unplanned, solo operation where the person receives no training, instructions, or guidance
other that what the general goal should be” (lesson notes).
As a director of a local state fusion cell, I would focus my strategy to defeat lone wolf terrorism on the importance Inter-Agency cooperation, better use of
technology resources, and set a task force to go after them to disrupt their operations. Technology has helped this organization to effectively operate in today’s
environment, but I consider that it also could be used to monitor their operations. With this organization it is almost impossible to predict their potential target.
The use of improve technologies with infrared capabilities as close circuit television (CCTV) would be essential for the early identification on extremist
individuals and protect key infrastructure.
Thompson (2013) also recommended to improved detection devices in public places and monitors the internet for extremist activities without violating the people
privacy (p.3). Dunn (2013) noted, “We need legislation that enables them and other agencies to do their job”. I believe that the inter-agency cooperation and
internet monitoring are critical to defeat these groups and better use the tools and expertise that each entity can bring to the table. Also, to establish this plan
would be difficult as result of today’s struggle economy. I think that we can mitigate the cost by sharing intelligent information and exchanging security
capabilities between law enforcement agencies.
