This assignment will consist of a 3 page MLA style research paper that will incorporate the students’ readings from the Self and Society reader along with other research materials to identify and explain how concepts of the self are interpreted in the context of society and how these concepts have influenced the students’ political identity. Students will need to include the following information in the research paper: clearly distinguish between fact, opinion, and acknowledge value judgments and identify his or her own position, perspective or position drawing on evidence rather than simply presenting a relativist position.
Students will need to do the following for this paper:
Part #1- Students will use Skinner’s and Mills’ readings and two other readings from the Dialogue reader and identify political ideas from the readings and/or discuss how a person may acquire their political beliefs, which you will infer from the readings.
Part #2- Students will also identify how information provided in EACH of the readings you are using may influence your political ideology and/or understanding of yourself in society.
Students must write the paper in MLA format and include: an introduction, including a thesis statement, organization of main points, transition statements, evaluating and applying evidence and/ or supporting ideas, a concluding paragraph, and MLA formatted reference page.
