Final Project
Research Study Proposal
In this course, you have demonstrated your knowledge of key concepts by completing a research proposal, which is your Final Project for the course. You have worked step-by-step on various elements of the project throughout the course. This week, you will complete two final pieces of the proposal and then combine all of these elements and submit your completed research study proposal.
To prepare for this Application:
• Review the results and feedback from your Application assignments in Weeks 1, 2, 7, 9, and 10.

• Review the Final Project Description handout in the Week 1 Learning Resources.

The assignment:
Submit by Day 7 your research study proposal according to the guidelines outlined in the Final Project Description handout.
Your completed proposal should include each of the following elements you completed in previous weeks:
• Introduction, problem statement, and purpose of the study (Week 1)

• Review of literature (Week 9)

• Research questions (Week 2)

• Theoretical framework (Week 7)

• Procedure, including design (Week 2) and sampling strategy (Week 10)
In addition, your final proposal should include two elements that you will create this week:

Social change implications. In 2 or 3 paragraphs, explain the possible implications that the results of your study may have on researchers, practitioners, and social change. See the Final Project Description handout for further information.

Instrumentation
In this section of your paper you need to describe any instruments, surveys, and demographic information questionnaires that you may use. Instruments are established tools for measuring some type of construct. Surveys are questions that you create in order to collect data used to answer your research question—in Quantitative studies these are generally close ended questions and often use Likert scales. Demographic information questionnaires are used to collect independent variable information such as gender, age, religion, education level, socioeconomic status, etc. You need to have justifications for using any Instruments that show that the Instrument is related to what you are studying. In this section you also need to talk about how you will establish reliability and validity.
Data Collection Procedure
How are you going to collect your data? In this section you want to talk about how you will contact your sample, what tools you will use to collect your data (including method for administering any instruments), how you will follow up with your sample, how you will store the data, etc.
Ethical Considerations
Ethical considerations include things such as if a protected class of individuals (prisoners, children, indivdiuals with cognitive delays, etc.) will be included in your sample. Other ethical considerations include how you will handle any biases in your attitudes about the topic or the data collection tools that you will use.
Potential Significance of the Study
This is the social change element of your study. Dissertations generally don’t end up having results that will change the world. How can you apply the results of your study to start to change the problem that you talked about in your problem statement? How can you eventually share the information you will glean from your study with those that can make social change occur?
Limitations of Study
What are some anticipated limitations of your study? This can include things like not having access to many participants to potential issues with technology that could impact your sample. This is a good way to plan for things that could derail your research.
