Assignments: You will be assigned to present one 20 to 25-minute oral presentations to the class. The assignment will cover particular world music, for example Mongolian Throat-Singing, Japanese Kabuki, Pygmy Music of Central Africa, Steel Bands of Trinidad and Tobago, etc. You must present an audio or audio/visual example(s) in the report. I suggest you use sources such as YouTube, websites of the musical style and Wikipedia. The reports should contain a concise history and explanation of the music, the cultural significance of the music, the performance forces needed (vocal and/or instrumental) and some information about the country. Be creative. The reports will be presented July 22, 2015. See the last page of this syllabus for more suggestions of topics.
