How do race, class, and gender inequalities shape Latinos/as’ experiences in the labor force? In other words, how are Latino/a workers affected by racism, sexism, and class oppression? How can Latino/a workers organize for better wages and working conditions? What can policy-makers do to help improve Latino/a workers’ conditions? Instructions In writing your essay, you should draw extensively from readings, relevant lectures, and the film, Made in L.A. Though integrating lectures and films is important, I am especially interested in seeing papers effectively integrate assigned readings. The following readings are especially relevant for this assignment: ? Marta Maria Maldonado. It’s in their nature to do manual labor: The racialization of Latino/a workers by agricultural employers. ? Chapter 2 of Mexicans in California ? Maria Gutierrez de Soldatenko. ILGWU labor organizers: Chicana and Latina leadership in the Los Angeles garment industry. You might also want to integrate readings on Latino/a politics and social activism (see syllabus for the list of readings on this topic). You are free to integrate whatever you think is relevant for this assignment. However, you should integrate only assigned readings, not outside sources.
