If you have ever made a site visit to an organization similar to the one you work with or plan to work with, you know that sometimes, when you walk into the building, even before you speak to anyone, there is a feeling about the place that you sense immediately. You can get a feel for the culture of the organization by what is on the walkways, the organization of the space, and other subtle features. The culture of an organization is ?the way we do things here.? This culture can be intentional or unintentional, but it is always there. The way the physical space and offices are assigned and used, how information is shared, and how organizational change is valued are all aspects of an organization?s culture. As you learn about organizational culture and its role in the organization, you can begin to assess the culture of your own organization.
