-What aspects of the subject does the author emphasez? Why?
-Who is the author of the reading? What do you know about this person, either from internal evidence or external sources?
-What is the author’s relation to the subject matter discussed in the reading? How is this established in the text? What stake does the author (appear to) have in the subject matter? How does this affect your interpretation of the reading?
-To what extent do you trust the author’s conclusions? On what do you base your judgement?
-What would you consider to be the reading’s most significant weakness–if any? Does this weakness change your evaluation of other aspects of the reading? Is it indicative of a systematic flaw or a consistent bias? Does is affect your evaluation of the author’s conclusions?
-What additional questions does the reading raise? To what extent should these have been addressed–or at least identifiedo–in the text?
