Part 1: Argumentative/Persuasive Essay
The argumentative essay is an individual written assignment. An argumentative essay should persuade the reader to a particular point of view on the strength of the reasons presented. It should show a clear line of reasoning based on evidence and in support of the point of view expressed in the introduction. Planning is critical to writing a logical argument. In your final submission, attach the plan/outline of your essay.
Choose a question from the list provided. Use information [in-text referenced] from three [different] academically acceptable sources. At least one of the sources must be a journal or newspaper article. From your research, develop a number of arguments that support your point of view. In the body of your essay, each paragraph should focus on one of these arguments and should have substantial supporting details. Ensure that the introduction provides background information about the issue, a clear statement outlining your position on the issue and scope of your essay. The conclusion should sum up the main points in relation to the main idea and round off the essay without introducing any new information. Please note that this essay should have a total of 5 paragraphs only and should include a list of references.

1. ?Studying hard is not the same as studying efficiently? (Cottrell 2003, p. 68). What are some of the efficient approaches to study and show how these are different from ?studying hard?. Relate your answer to learning and consider effective approaches to two of the following: reading, note-taking, time management, motivation or attitude.
2. Students spend many hours taking notes. Are notes useful, and why make notes at all? Relate your answer to learning and to either the linear method of note-taking and/or mind mapping.
3. Academic writing is quite distinctive. Identify some of the features of academic writing that are most important for university students. Give reasons to support why you consider them to be most important.
