You are required to write an essay on the pair of books devoted to the main topics of the course. This gives you an opportunity to compare the works in question with each other and relate them to the larger literature in the field. These are primarily analytical essays, but that does not mean no other sources need to be consulted. Each essay should be 2,500-3,000 words in length, carefully checked for spelling, grammar, and style. Essays that fall below a certain standard of literacy will be returned unmarked.

Important note:
First, in “discussion,” focus on a particular aspect of the two works, individually or comparatively – e.g. Is what they are in your chosen respect much the same or are the important differences?
Second, contextualization means going beyond the two works. I recommended in class that you read the published book reviews on both, which should give you ideas. It is ok to cite or even quote such reviews.
