A study was done comparing the diagnostic value of mammographyvs. clinical breast exam (CBE) for detecting breast cancer (NewEngland Journal of Medicine, 2004, 351: 427-437), althougheverything you need to answer the question follows. A total of 1909patients were tested, with 45 cases of cancer detected. For CBE, atotal of 43 exams were positive, 8 of whom turned out to havebreast cancer. The remaining 1866 women had a negative CBE, but 37were found to have cancer. For mammography, a total of 111 examswere positive, with 18 turning out to have breast cancer. For theremaining 1798 women with negative mammography, 27 turned out tohave cancer.
