I uploaded my midterm paper and this new paper is going to be the continuation of the midterm paper. The new paper has to be written from scratch but you can use some points from the mid-term paper that you think are good.The paper would focus on Socially Responsible Investing. Philosophy and screening is the main thing. The stocks you pick has to match the philosophy and screening criteria. Also the 3 competitor’s funds for the new paper should also match the philosophy and screening. I did not do good on my mid-term paper so you will have to either refine or come up with new philosophy and screening that you think would serve the best for the new paper. Below is the feedback from my Professor for my mid term paper, Please focus on what she has to say;
Your paper includes some good points but the philosophy is very scattered and needed an overarching frame. I *think* that you’re interested in creating a fund of firms that are financially successful and focused on the environment. However, you use a negative screen for sin stocks and I don’t understand why. Then, for your positive screen, you consider “the promotion of women and minorities, family-friendly programs, charitable giving, community outreach, customer and supplier relations, product quality and safety, political activity, and responsiveness to public concerns.” Again, I don’t see how this screen relates to your philosophy.
Then, when you introduce your choice of stocks, you say “The companies I choose must also be dedicated to a bigger mission of making this world a better place by pursuing eco- friendly policies” which suggests a return to your original philosophy.
Overall, your paper lack a consistent focus between the philosophy,
screens and stock picks.
New Paper Instructions:
For your final project, you will refine your existing SRI mutual fund and consider how it compares to the leading competitor funds. For this analysis, you will assume your initial investment is frozen through April 12th. In an 8 page double-spaced (or 4 page single-spaced) paper, please do the following:
(1) Track the original fund’s performance from Feb 28th to April 12th (based upon closing price).
(2) Compare your fund to 3 competitor mutual funds in both overall attributes and financial performance (use your rate of return for #1).
(3) Recommend changes to the philosophy and/or criteria. You may expand or narrow the scope of your fund.
(4) Recommend 5 new stocks to purchase on April 12th (assume you have another $1M to invest). You also may decide to sell some existing stock on that date. Make sure you explain your rationale for buying the new stock and possibly selling your existing stock.
GRADING
Your final project will be graded based upon the thoughtfulness and creativity of your mutual fund and your analyses. I highly encourage creativity in the choice of the fund’s philosophy and/or screening criteria. You may use charts or graphs but please include them in the Appendix. As always, you MUST follow Rutgers guidelines for proper citations. Remember, direct quotes require quotation marks. All facts require citations.
Again my Professor is very strict with citations, she requires citations for everything that is not common knowledge, citations for facts etc. Avoid any grammar mistakes.Direct quotes has to be in quotation marks.
