On completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a range of advanced and
contemporary theory relating to information systems and systems
development methodologies.
2. Analyse problems objectively using the main theoretical perspectives of
the cognate area of information systems.
3. Apply theories, methodology and strategies demonstrating academic
rigour in identifying solutions to complex and significant problems.
4. Review and critically evaluate outcomes, theoretical perspectives,
methods and strategies, and relate them to existing knowledge structures
and methodologies.
The assessment is to be submitted in the form of a portfolio. The portfolio should include A Discussion on Selected Theories used in Information Systems, and a Case Study Report.

Theories listed there. You will be expected to research into these theories, preparing a report covering the following:
1) the main ideas about each theory ;( if it suing widely or the history of using it)
2) The general strengths and weaknesses of each;
3) Compare and contrast the different theories;
4) discuss ways in which these approaches could be evaluated;

In general you will need to demonstrate your ability to conduct research using such
sources as journals, conference proceedings, books, CD ROMs and the internet.
More emphasis should be placed on peer reviewed research based literature
sources than textbooks. Evidence your research through the correct citation of
references using the Harvard system, and use of quotations.
Bibliography ? you should demonstrate that you have accessed a wide range of
source material whilst producing the work, and that you have also read widely
around the various topics of the course.
Electronic Evidence ? you may wish to substantiate your engagement by providing
scanned copies of book covers, copies of papers, screen dumps of web sites, URLs,
digital photographs, interview transcripts etc.
