Film Analysis; The Dark Knight Rises Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Find a review for a film, preferably one that you have seen. According to the distinctions made in Chapter Ten, how is the reviewer approaching the film.
My film that I will use for review will be Batman “The Dark Knight Rises”. As I read the review from the writer Anthony Lane who posted his review in the New Yorker of the film it seems to me that Mr. Lane saw the film in the eyes of Bruce Wayne (Batman) as a boring in his life outside of Batman. The life of Mr. Wayne as being rich all seems to boring being that he has a lot of money but yet depends on other people to do for him. He never eats; drinks, and more or less he said you never see him use the restroom. He is always showing up at parties with one or two girls by his side but that’s it. As for the Batman character, he meets all the viewers’ expectations as a super hero and with all the cool gadgets and vehicles he uses to assist him in fighting crime.
To what degree does the review acknowledge the public perception of the film?
He addressed the public perception at the start of his review when he asks how badly you would want Bruce Wayne or Batman to show up at one of your parties. Again he viewed Bruce Wayne as a no small talk type of person with a playboy type of lifestyle.
What evidence does each review provide to illustrate main points and claims?
That Batman needs all the gizmos he can muster, if he wants to defeat his latest and most potent foe (Lane, July 2012).
Do any words or phrases capture the essence of the reviewer’s attitude toward the film?
Who, then, in “The Dark Knight Rises” does the rising? Not Bruce; the slacker we see wandering through the Wayne mansion at the beginning can hardly get out of his pajamas (Lane, July 2012). This is describing what his view of Bruce Wayne is outside of Batman and that he is a boring playboy with a lot of money.

Additionally, please share with the class exactly which sources you rely on, as a member of the general audience, to evaluate whether or not you will see a movie.
I normally depend on what my wife who is always on the web even when new movies come out to see what the critics are saying about the latest movie(s). The other resource I use is pretty much a good one with a friend of mine he is a good judge when it comes to movies. Nine times out of ten he is pretty much on the spot with what he says and recommends.

The New Yorker, The Current Cinema; Batman’s Bane; “The Dark Knight Rises.” by Anthony Lane July 30, 2012.
Peer 2 discussion 2

The film that I chose was Taken.

In this film an ex spys daughter is abducted while on a trip to Paris that he did not want her to go on. Well he uses his spy skills to track her down and the people who took her. This film is filled with lots of action drama and suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Now that there is a part two to this film I plan on watching that as well.

According to the distinctions made in Chapter Ten, how is the reviewer approaching the film.
At first the reviewer is approaching the film in a negative manner and then he becomes positive about the film.

To what degree does the review acknowledge the public perception of the film?
There is no degree to public perception about the film

What evidence does each review provide to illustrate main points and claims?
One critic talked about how the movie in the beginning was slow and the the other was talking about how the movie moved too fast. so really they did not provide any evidence to illustrate their main points or claims they were trying to make.
Do any words or phrases capture the essence of the reviewer’s attitude toward the film?
Several critics made the comment about how the movie was not great, one critic said the movie was nonsense but entertaining nonsense

Movies Analysis; Iron Man & Do the Right Thing. Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

“Iron Man” produced in 2008 was fare for escapism, using entertainment to escape the realities of daily life. Film managed to deal with issues of personal conscience and social responsibility, allowing audience to escape. it explores themes of vigilantism, pervasive urban crime and greedy corporations supplying military arms to both sides. Audiences enjoyed watching heroes triumph over evil.
“Do the Right Thing’ produced in 1989 takes place in Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood in Brooklyn. It talks about elements of drama and comedy, depicting a truce with people of different races living in the same community. The film is filled with savage beauty and unflinching in honesty. The film is based on personal experiences with racial relations. The song “Fight to Power” says race is central to all things and the song “People” tells people are the same but we’re not; cause what we need is awareness, not to get careless. Natalie Hopkins, associate editor for theRoot.com, told National Public Radio, “Do the Right Thing’ portrayed a community didn’t respect black people and their presence in Bedford-Stuyvesant [Martin 2009]. It talks about bigotry and racism from the director point of view, Spike Lee, who understood the intricates of race not shying away from tough topics.

These two films did have an impact on society. For example Iron Man portrays how one corporation goes behind Starks back selling his weapons and have him making the weapons not knowing that he’s making them for the enemy, and that his capture was part of the plot. They did this wanting to get his technology and a way to make money while selling out his corporation and “Do the Right Thing” was based on racism where different natoinalities lived in the same community but couldn’t get along with each other. They had to learn how to live together in one neighborhood cause each race thought one was more superior than the other. Once they learned how to get along with each other and help one another they then realized it was much easier to live together and make the community a better place without fighting.

Examine the most recent issue of International Economic Trends, published by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The figures you see in the graphs are percent changes compared to the year before, in economic data for seven countries and the Euro Area. Your assignment is to compare indicators for the United States, Japan, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

International Economic Trends is found at this site:

http://research.stlouisfed
You must use this site for your base information but you are welcome to use one or more other sites to help you in your analysis.

When you click on the link above you come to a summary screen with several economic indicators for several different countries. Scroll down and you will see a cross country comparison that you can access, and this is best for the multiple country comparisons you will be doing. When using the cross country comparison first make sure you choose the graph that compares the US, Japan, Canada, and the United Kingdom, because other comparisons will also be shown. Second, make sure you choose the correct chart because several will be displayed for each economic classification. You will need to access:

Output and growth (GDP), and this will be the first graph on your screen.

Inflation and prices (CPI), and this will be the second graph on your screen.

Labor markets (employment), and this will be the third graph as you scroll down.

For each of the three comparisons below you need to utilize the latest available information shown in the graphs. It is extremely important that this most recent data be included.

1. Compare the four countries in terms of Output and Growth (Real GDP). The analysis should only cover the period from the beginning of 2008 to the present.

2. Compare the four countries with respect to Inflation and Prices (CPI). The analysis should only cover the period from the beginning of 2008 to the present.

3. Compare the four countries regarding the Labor Market (Unemployment Rate). The analysis should only cover the period from the beginning of 2008 to the present.

4. Provide a conclusion, with supporting justification, as to which country has had the best overall economc recovery since 2008.

Optional readings

The following shows you the yields on all the maturities issued by the Treasury in the form of a table. You can also see a graph of the current yields, the yield curve, by clicking on the Data and Charts Center located on the left column of the page. Be patient, it is slow to load.

http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/data-chart-center/interest-rates/Pages/TextView.aspx?data=yield
The following gives you a hypothetical yield curve (not based on current data) but the value is in the explanations that are below the curve.

http://www.investopedia.com/terms/y/yieldcurve.asp#axzz1VCSWJAY8
Case assignment expectations:

Use information from the modular background readings as well as any good quality resource you can find. Make sure you cite all resources you use and provide a reference list at the end of your paper.

LENGTH: 4-5 typed and double-spaced pages.

In addition to the overall quality, depth, grammar, and organization of the paper, the following will, in particular, be assessed:

1. Your ability to present comparative economic data in a clear and precise manner.

2. Your ability to analyze comparative economic performance to arrive at conclusions consistent with the facts..
