At this point in the course, you have gained an awareness of the complexities of ethical and responsible professional practice. You have also gained an understanding of the codes, standards, and other professional resources that will be essential to effective practice. Beyond this, you have examined the ways your own ethical perspectives and personal life experiences affect ethical decision-making. Moreover, you have applied these areas of understanding though common dilemmas psychologists often encounter. All of this has laid the groundwork for a defensible ethical and moral framework, which will serve as a foundation for addressing legal and ethical issues psychologists often confront.
The purpose of the final paper is for you to culminate the learning achieved in the course through application, self-appraisal, and evaluation. In a 10-12 page paper (excluding references and title page), provide a discussion of an ethical dilemma followed by an appraisal of your moral and ethical framework.
In the first part of this paper, you will choose from one of the ethical dilemma cases presented in this week’s readings or throughout this course and discuss the following:
a. A brief description of the case
b. The most significant ethical issues in the case including your reasons why these are significant. Apply the code of ethics of the American Psychological Association,
as well as other applicable professional codes of ethics in your discussion.
c. Legal and other professional practice issues that would need to be considered to work effectively and responsibly with the case. If no legal or other professional
practice issues seem evident, explain why.
d. The ethical decision making steps you would take to arrive at a resolution of the case and the actions or change interventions you take in this case. Discuss why you
would take these actions and change interventions.
In the second part of this paper, provide an appraisal of the following:
a. The ways in which self-awareness of your personal life experiences, including their emotional influence on perceptions of legal issues and professional ethics, could
affect your work with this case.
b. The ways your personal ethical perspectives could affect ethical decision-making specifically in this case. Provide a rationale for what you have determined in this
regard.
c. The development of your moral and ethical framework throughout the course including a discussion of how you might have responded to this case at the beginning of
the course compared to your present responses.
The paper should demonstrate understanding of the reading assignments as well as the implications of new knowledge. The paper may include explanation and examples from previous experience. The paper should likewise address current research, standards of practice, and implications for future application. In addition to the required readings, cite at least three scholarly references.
