Verbal communication – Group Project Policy: Global Business Practices and Communication is the highlight of this course Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

In groups of 5-6 participants students will prepare group oral presentation and research paper about one specific country, which will be assigned to each group. The report will include three major sections: Macro environment, trade information and business communication information (The three major sections are explained fully below this message). Macro environment section provides an orientation to the country. The trade information section gives economic and trade data, including information about that country’s trade relations with Qatar. The Business Communication section is the major focus of the report and it contains information about verbal and nonverbal communication, business customs or etiquette.
The objective of this group project is to increase their knowledge and gain more experience in conducting research, writing, presenting information orally and describing trends. The students benefit as well, for in addition to learn about specific countries, their business practices and negotiation styles. The main evaluation criteria will be both of the written report and presentation skills.
When presenting the case, the emphasis will be on quality over quantity, group cohesion, clarity and credibility.
The body of the paper should be no longer than 5 double-spaced pages. In addition, it should include exhibits, charts, a bibliography that lists all sources, and a one-page, double-spaced executive summary. The executive summary should be critical — it not only summarizes trade and communication information, but also sets the tone for the entire paper.
One-half of the evaluation will be based on the oral presentation of your case; the other half of the grade will be based on the written submission.
Each group will then be responsible to present orally its final project within 7 to 10 minutes.
NOTE: ALL PRESENTATIONS MUST BE DEVELOPED BY USING THE POWERPOINT.

What type of information should I include in the Macro environment, Trade information and Business Communication sections?

Macro environment: provides an orientation to the country.
– Economic factors: Represent the wider economy so may include economic growth rates, levels of employment and unemployment, interest rates, Gross Domestic Product
– Socio-cultural factors: Includes forces that affect the basic values, behaviors, and preferences of the society-all of which have an effect on consumer marketing decisions. Example, customs, traditions, values
– Demographics: The demographic environment includes the study of human populations in terms of size, density, location, age, gender, race, language, distribution of wealth and social classes, educational level, living conditions and lifestyle, and other statistical information.

Trade information: economic and trade data, including information about that country’s trade relations with Qatar.
Business Communication information: contains information about verbal and nonverbal communication, business customs or business etiquette.

– Verbal communication: The verbal component refers to the content of our message, the choice and arrangement of our words. Examples of this are the way people greet in different countries, the directness of the verbal messages, in the workplace environment how much input is expected from employees in meetings? Is it acceptable for individuals to interrupt conversations? How people approach others? (formally or informally?), Usage of titles to address people (Mrs., Mr., Ms., Prof., Dr., etc) are they commonly used in your selected country?

– Non-verbal communication: The non-verbal component refers to the message we send through our body language. As with nonverbal communication, what is considered usual or polite behavior in one culture may be seen as unusual or impolite in another. One culture may determine that snapping fingers to call a waiter is appropriate, whereas another may consider this gesture rude. We are often not aware of how gestures, facial expressions, eye contact, and the use of conversational distance affect communication. To interpret another culture’s style of communication, it is necessary to study the "silent language" of that culture. For example, in Mexico, a hug may reliably communicate the development of a trusting relationship, while a German negotiator might experience a hug as inappropriately intimate.

Follow the link below for more examples of Non-verbal communication.

– Business customs or Business etiquette: It is knowing and observing the rules of conduct that will maintain good relations with others without offending the other person. It applies to what you say, what you do, and how you look. It also covers what you don’t do or say. Experts say that most people decide to establish an ongoing relationship or not in the first four minutes they spend with someone. Where can we see this business customs or etiquette? Dining with clients, Business meetings, communications (emails, phone, etc)

Hazardous Noise Case Study: You have been hired as a consultant to help a local machine shop solve a hazardous noise problem Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

You have been hired as a consultant to help a local machine shop solve a hazardous noise problem. The shop is 10,000 square feet in area, with 12-foot high concrete block walls, and a flat metal roof. Inside the shop are two band saws, two metal lathes, three drill presses, one milling machine, and three abrasive grinders. The six employees work at benches located throughout the shop, using a variety of pneumatic-powered hand tools and non-powered tools. A recent noise survey found sound pressure levels exceeding 100dBA in some parts of the shop. All employees were monitored for noise exposure over an eight-hour workday, and the calculated TWA for noise for the employees ranged from 88dBA to 97dBA.
Using the Risk Assessment Matrix in Table 11 on page 122 of the course textbook, conduct an initial hazard analysis and risk assessment based on the information in the scenario provided. Discuss how you arrived at the risk level estimate.
Determine a possible control measure for each of the six levels in the hierarchy of controls on page 208 in the course textbook, and explain the reasoning behind each choice. For each of the selected control measures, reevaluate the original risk. In a summary paragraph, discuss the results and how the shop managers could determine which control measures would be required and which others might be beneficial to their operations.
Your paper must be a minimum of two pages in length, not counting cover page and references, and follow APA formatting for the paper, as well as for all references and in-text citations.

This material covers:

Chapter 11: Implementation and Operation – Section 5.0
Chapter 12: Hierarchy of Controls: the Safety Decision Hierarchy – Section 5.1.1
