In an essay of about five to six pages, identify a major and controversial conflict in the novel and some themes relevant to this conflict; explain ambiguity surrounding the conflict, and how the conflict is resolved (or partially resolved) by the novel’s end. Note: there are likely many relevant themes to consider; choose the ones you’re most interested in. Girl in Landscape purposefully leaves the reader with some questions and gray area, even in the end. Discuss these in your analysis! The best essays will acknowledge areas of ambiguity, possibly discuss various plausible conclusions in regards to a particular ambiguous conflict, and perhaps even explore how ambiguity itself creates a kind of meaning.
