Concise – Is excessive, redundant, or otherwise unnecessary information present in the report? Does the text of the report unnecessarily restate information found in the illustration and vice versa?
Consistent – Are the same terms and abbreviations used throughout the report? Are matters pertaining to format (e.g., headings) and style (e.g., capitalization) uniformly applied? Does the report comply with the GPO Style Manual, where applicable?
Correct – Are the data in the report accurate? Does the report agree with other known findings?
Current – Is the report timely? Specifically, has more than 6 months elapsed between the date of the event, i.e., the BP oil spill, and the issuance of the report (not the current date)? Is it apparent when the report was published?
Complete – Does the report adequately address the subject, i.e., provide results and conclusions and recommend a course of action?
Creative – Is a unique, imaginative approach taken in presenting the information in the report? Is the report presented in a manner that incorporates the latest means of communicating technical information, e.g., the use of hypertext, animation, etc.? Does the illustration comply with the guidance in Chapter 6 (“Designing Illustrations”) of the textbook on creating circle graphs?
