Osteoporosis essay custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Marks: 30%
The following essay question must be completed and submitted prior to sitting for the final written theory assessment.
You will have to research outside of the material supplied for this essay.
Essay topic
Discuss one of the following disorders.

Osteoporosis

In your discussion you must spend at least half the essay describing the normal structure and function of the part of the body affected by the disorder. For example if discussing osteoarthritis you must describe the structure of synovial joints and in particular the articular cartilage.
In the other half of the essay describe the pathophysiology of the disorder and relate its associated symptoms to normal function. Do not discuss treatments. Your assignment is to be submitted electronically via the instructions below.

As students, you are exploring and building upon the knowledge of predecessors as well as your

own experiences. For these reasons your work, whether it be in the form of an essay, case

study, practical report or thesis, represents; first, the integration of the work of others and

second, the creation of your own unique argument and style. It is important when writing to

separate what you are saying and what others say about the subject. Referencing is the

method used to indicate such separation of ideas and adds considerable scholarly impact to a

piece of work.

Indicating the sources of evidence, theories and arguments in essays is something that students

often find worrying, yet it is a simple matter governed by some simple conventions which are

easily learned and which should become automatic after writing the first one or two

assignments. The sources from which you derive all quotations, all evidence, all statistics, all

theories, all opinions you use in your assignment/essay/project/report should be cited clearly so

the readers can identify them and refer to them quickly and easily. Notice that this most

important rule applies to the use of all those sources other than your own original work.

Referencing is necessary whenever you use the ideas or work of others by quoting verbatim

(word for word), paraphrasing

(summarising and restating), or citing (mentioning another”s

work in support of your own). Failure to do this is plagiarism – a most serious infringement of

academic conventions.

The system of documenting and referencing

In all cases of documenting the source within the text, several principal aspects should be

followed:

• Author”s name,

• Year of publication and page number (the page number may be omitted when

referring to the general argument of a chapter, book or article)

Examples:

Various researchers obtained roughly the same results (James and Carter, 1960;

Goldsmith, 1958); others recorded diametrically opposed readings (Bromely, 1961).

When using reference sources from edited work you should cite the author of the actual

chapter or article used, not the name of the editor for the book or journal. In the following

example, Specht, (1970:108) would appear in your text but the complete reference details (see

below) would appear in your reference list:

Specht, R.L. 1970. Vegetation. In Leeper, G.W. (Ed.) The Australian Environment. M.U.P.

Melbourne: 105-118

Reference List

At the end of an assignment all the works cited are listed in full. Start this on a new page with a

heading “References”. The list is compiled alphabetically according to author”s names.

It is not necessary to separate books, journals, conference papers, reports etc. Three examples

follow, the first is a book, the second a journal article and the third is an edited book:

Basic Rules for Referencing Books

1. State the name(s) and initial(s) of the author(s). Separate authors by use of

commas. Use an ampersand (&) before the last author.

2. Enclose the year of publication in parenthesis.

3. Capitalise only the first word of the title and of the subtitle, if any, any proper nouns.

Ensure the tile of the book is underlined or in italics.

4. The city of publication (followed by a full colon).

5. The publisher.

Basic Rules for Referencing Journal Articles.

1. State the name(s) and initials(s) of the author(s).

2. Enclose the year of publication in parenthesis. Write “in press” in parentheses for

articles that have been accepted for publication but have not yet actually been

published.

3. The title of the article – do not underline or use italics.

4. The name of the journal (underlined or in italics).

5. The volume (underlined or in italics) and number (not underlined or italics).

6. The page numbers where the article can be found.

TASK A) Conduct a LIT REVIEW that explains poor promotion choices that supports the argument behind the Peter Principle. PART B) Analyse the role of HR strategies in managing the risk of poor promotion decisions within the Royal Australian Air-Force custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

READ ALL MATERIAL THOROUGLY
Length: 2,500 – 3,000 words
It’s been thirty years since Laurence J. Peter introduced the Peter Principle – ‘In a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence’. The principle holds that the hierarchy itself, through promotions, transforms capable workers into shaky bosses.’
Human resource researchers and managers have long maintained that the human resource function plays an important role in the effective management of people. However, the Peter Principle would suggest that organisations promote individuals to positions beyond their comfort.
(Source: Matthew Budman (2006) ‘Can We Turn Back the Rising Tide of Incompetence?’ The Conference Board, September/October, 41-48.)
Question
Based on your reading thus far:
1. Conduct a review of relevant HR academic literature to identify factors (with evidence) that might explain poor promotion decisions and discuss the extent to which these factors support the argument behind the Peter Principle.
2. Analyse the role of HR strategies in managing the risk of poor promotion decisions within your organization (The Royal Australian Air-Force, is the organization I am in, so it has to be written about this organization).
Be sure to integrate both theoretical material and organisational examples in your answer to provide both depth and support for your argument.
Rationale
This assignment is designed to:
o familiarise students with the nature of the HRM phenomenon and the different perspectives from which it is viewed;
o encourage students to explore various HRM theories;
o develop the ability to identify the importance of the HR function in the effective management of people;
o familiarise students with the gap which may exist between the academic theories and the real world practice of HRM;
o encourage students to develop a critical understanding of the extent to which organisations adhere to espoused HRM policies;
o encourage students to explore the various HR challenges such as environmental, organisational, individual and in the performance of their day-to-day responsibilities; complicated relationship among top management, line managers, HR managers and employees and its effect on HR policies and practices;
o encourage students to develop sound analytical skills based on in-depth literature research, learnt theories, case studies and work practices.

Marking criteria
This assignment is essentially about the management of a practical HR issue. You are using research/academic literature to conduct your analysis. Particular importance will be given to the quality of your arguments on ways of effectively managing the issue that you have chosen to analyse. In addition, your assignment will be evaluated upon:
o answer the question set, kept to the topic and covered only relevant issues;
o good use of evidence (academic literature) to justify and support your arguments, sufficient application of academic literature is vital (please try to demonstrate your understanding of the literature by discussing research and findings, not just providing a citation(s) to accompany a one line précis of a research result;
o sourcing at least 60% of your references from academic journals;
o applying relevant theories;
o building a sound argument using analysis, explanation and interpretation;
o original thinking based on clearly evaluated evidence and logic; sources were treated critically and carefully, acknowledging their subjectivity, strengths and weaknesses;
o taking a critical orientation to the topic, theories and readings;
o providing an overarching, well structured, clear and consistent line of reasoning across the assignment including an effective introduction and conclusion;
o a clear, coherent structure in the essay, quality of expression and correct use of the Harvard referencing method as explained in the study materials provided.
o Avoid ‘cutting and pasting’ (copying) verbatim paragraphs and long quotations from source materials. Cut and paste excerpts will be crossed out and will not be considered as part of the essay.

Preparation and Submission of essays
1. Introduction
The rationale behind assigning essays is that written expression is an important part of organisational life. In addition, administration subjects require the student to undertake considerable reading. Essay writing is a useful way to test amount of reading and reading comprehension.
Essays should be approximately the suggested length but should be compact. This means that final drafts should involve cutting back, rather than padding, an earlier draft. Brevity is also a virtue of good managers.
2. Preparation
Quality essays cannot be written on a one draft only basis. At a minimum, the essay writer should:
Start with a rough outline of topics that will be covered in the paper. Topics should be arranged in a logical sequence. At this stage the paper will look something like a ‘rough’ table of contents.
Expand each topic into sentences and paragraphs that include all the thoughts the writer can find or create related to the topic.
Pare down this rough draft eliminating unrequired statements, correcting errors in spelling and grammar, and adding the bibliography.
In many cases one or more additional redrafts will still be required as new material is found or thoughts are reorganized.
3. Layout
Assignments should be typed using at least 1½ line spacing.
The front cover of your assignment should include:
Your name and address.
Subject, assignment number and topic.
Date posted.
All pages must be numbered and securely fastened with a stapler.
A table of contents page is optional. Similarly a precis or abstract is optional. If a precis is written, it should be concise.
. Reference list and/or bibliography
You should include in your reference list only those articles and books that you have actually cited.
The reference list should appear on a separate page immediately after the actual essay (that is, before the appendix, if there is one).
All references should be formatted according to the APA style required by the University
6. Appendix
Where an appendix is necessary it should be located as the last section of the essay (that is, after the list of references).
7. General
Both the use of ‘I’ (too personal) and ‘the writer’ (too pompous) are not recommended. It is much better to make the essay totally impersonal by avoiding both. This means that careful and in some cases, considerable thinking must be put into some sentences to achieve impersonality. Abbreviation (unless a translation is made with the initial use) and slang, should be avoided.

Guidebook and web sites are often not the objective purveyors of information for prospective travelers that they claim to be. In many cases they provide a greater insight into the market at which they are aimed, rather than the culture that is their subject.

Discuss the critical implication of this proposition, by examining a range of guide books and/or travel web sites. You may wish to concentrate on guides/sites about an individual country.

Please use simple English as I am a international studetn.
