journal review custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

you need to write journal reviews for two journal . they are
1)Gabrenya, W. K., Wang, Y. and Latan?, B. (1985) Social loafing on an optimizing task: Cross-cultural differences among Chinese and Americans. Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, 16 (2), 223-242.

2)Miura, I.T., Okamoto, Y., Kim, C., Chang, C., Steere, M. and Fayol.M. (1994) Comparisons of children’s cognitive representation of number: China, France, Japan, Korea, Sweden, and the United States. International Journal of Behavioral Development, 17, (3), 401-411.

Each article will be outlined and evaluated in around 750 ? 1000 words (1500-1700 words in total). The ratio of outline to evaluation should be roughly 200 (outline) to 550 (evaluation).

The evaluation must be conducted with reference to the following key questions. ALL of these questions must be answered:

1. What are the most important and specific findings of the study?

2. What is the importance of the findings to psychological theory? How did they move psychological knowledge onwards?

3. Considering the methods used in the research what limitations are involved in the interpretation of findings? (e.g. what confounding variables could be present?, what weaknesses are there in the sampling and variable measurement? etc.)

You are NOT REQUIRED to describe the articles in general or in great detail so do not start your work with a long description of the study. The initial outline simply requires you to give the rationale at the heart of the study and the central design. In outlining the results you need to explain how these relate to the aims of the study, how or whether they contrast with previous findings and so on. Note that in the Cramer and Anderson article we are ONLY interested in the findings for ethnicity and NOT for body size.

You may of course go further than just these questions above if you wish but it is important to stick to critical evaluation and it is also important that, before going further, the questions above are thoroughly addressed. You might wish to look ahead at later literature in order to identify variables or factors that were not considered or controlled in the current study.

Marking Guidelines

An excellent answer will clearly and coherently explain what the findings have shown beyond previous literature (e.g. in the case of social loafing, will show how the taking of the standard (Western) social loafing experiment to other types of culture has revealed a new phenomenon explicable in terms of variables that differ across the cultures). It will clearly explain the relevance of the findings in terms of cultural variables. The concept of universalising psychology will be clarified and exemplified in terms of the study findings. Weaknesses and flaws will not be trivial or spurious but will be relevant and justified in terms of the study and, at best, in terms of later research developments.

Social Research custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

1. Become a media critic. Scan a newspaper or some magazines for statistics. How many articles can you find that use frequency distributions, graphs, and the summary of statistics introduced in this chapter? Are these statistics used appropriately and interpreted correctly? Would any other statistics have been preferable or useful in addition to those presented?
2. You have been asked to do field research on the World Wide Web?s impact on the socialization of children in today?s world. The first part of the project involves your writing a compare-and-contrast report on the differences between how you and your generation were socialized as children and the way children are being socialized. Collect your data by surfing the Web ?as if you were a kid.? The web is your field, and you are the field researcher. Using any of the major search engines, explore the web within the ?Kids? or ?Children? subject heading, keeping field notes on what you observe. Write a brief report based on the data you collected. How has the Web impacted children socialization in comparison to when you were a child?
3. Propose a field research design if you were going to do research on the staff at homeless shelters. Propose the role along the participant observation continuum that you would play in the setting and explain why you would favor this role. Describe the stages of your field research study, including your plans for entering the field, developing and maintaining relationships, sampling, and recording and analyzing data.
4. Ethics Questions- Should any requirements be imposed on researchers who seek to study other cultures to ensure that procedures are appropriate and interpretations are culturally sensitive? What practices would you suggest for cross-cultural researchers to ensure ethical guidelines are followed? Consider the wording of consent forms and the procedures for gaining voluntary cooperation.
5. Ethnography and grounded theory both refer to aspects of data analysis that are an inherent part of qualitative approach. What do these approaches have in common? How do they differ?
6. Pictures are worth a thousand words, so to speak, but is that 1,000 words too many? Should qualitative researchers feel free to take pictures of social interaction or other behaviors anytime, anywhere? What limits should an institutional review board place on researchers? ability to take pictures of others?

using accounting of desicion making custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Estimated (max.) time required: 510 – 600 minutes (about 8½ – 10 hrs)
Find Your Firm’s Annual Report and Spreadsheet
Go to the list of companies on Moodle called ‘Find Your Company’. Find the company you have been given and click on its URL. This will take you to your firm’s website, where you should be able to find your firm’s annual reports under the Investor Relations section. This section might also be called Shareholders’ Information, Financial Information or something similar. Save a soft copy of the latest Annual Report for your firm. For example, your firm’s latest Annual Report may be as at 30 June 2011. Only save its Annual Report. Do NOT save its interim or half-yearly reports. You can ignore these. I also suggest you have a quick browse through your firm’s website. This will give you some initial insights into your firm’s operations and activities.
If you have any difficulty finding your firm’s latest Annual Report – or would like to check you have the right one – please email me (Martin Turner – your course co-ordinator) or ask your lecturer or tutor for assistance.
You can also find your company’s spreadsheet in the ‘Your Company’ folder in Moodle.
Step 1: Read Your Firm’s Annual Report: Identify Clearly What Your Firm Actually Does
Carefully and thoughtfully read through your firm’s latest Annual Report: words and numbers. While you do this, note down key concepts and questions (KCQs) that occur to you. In particular, identify areas of your firm’s financial statements you are having difficulty understanding, areas of its business that seem most important or critical to you, key challenges the firm appears to be facing, how successful it appears to be in meeting these challenges and its apparent strategy.
Discuss your KCQs with other people in your study group (and also with others in the course). What similarities or differences are there between your firm and the firms of other people and in the way they present their financial statements? Are you happy with the firm you have been given to analyse; or would you have preferred to be given a different company? What concerns, if any, do you have at this stage?
Please allow about 270 – 300 minutes to complete Step 1.
Step 2 is on the next page…..
2
Step 2: Answer the following questions:
Q: What are the five elements of the extended fundamental accounting equation? Define each element and give an example of each from your company’s financial statements. (5%)
Q: What is accrual accounting? Why is it an important concept to understand in accounting? Go to your company’s income statement. Does the sales revenue figure in your company’s income statement mean your firm has actually received payment from its customers for all of these sales during the year? Why or why not? (3%)
Q: The three broad forms of business structure are sole proprietorships (or sole traders), partnerships and companies. Which of these is a separate legal entity from its owners? The entity concept applies to all firms regardless of its business structure. What is the entity concept and how is this concept related to the duality concept (dual effect of transactions)? (5%)
Please allow about 240 – 300 minutes to complete Step 2.
Please submit (online) your ASS#1 as a Word document by 11.00pm Sat 31 March (end of Wk 5). This should include your KCQs on your firm’s Annual Report and the results of your discussions with other students (Step 1) and your answers to each of the three questions in Step 2. Your Word document should be named as follows: “Your name ASS#1.doc” (for example, “Sarah Jones ASS#1.doc”).
