Over the past few years, several sexual violence scandals have plagued several national militaries, including the Australian Defence Forces. Focusing on either the Australian, New Zealand, American, or Canadian military- and drawing from readings in class- address the following question in your essay: Should sexual violence within the military treated as a human rights issue, a human security issue, or a national security threat? 1. Thesis statement/central argument: The thesis statement is your central argument. Instead, it shows that you are taking a position on an issue/topic. The thesis statement will be worth 20% of the final grade in this assignment. You will be graded on whether the thesis makes a clear argument, whether it addresses one of the questions posed in the topic list, whether the scope of the argument is appropriate for the final essay.
2. An acknowledgement of two counter-arguments to your position (2-3 sentences maximum). The purpose of this section is to show that you have thought about the counter arguments to your position. You can show this by discussing two specific counter arguments, and using references to relevant scholarship where appropriate (ie. author x takes a different approach, which is a, b, and c…) This section is worth 15% of the final 100% grade.
