email interview with a member of your chosen profession or a technical communicator in a related field or industry.
When conducting your interview, you want to think about:
What types of writing can you expect to do on the job?
What audiences will you be writing for? What are their interests? Concerns? Expectations?
How much of your writing will be transmitted or published in electronic forms (Websites, intranets?) or in print?
What exigencies or constraints do these writers experience? Time constraints? Lack of resources? Audience expectations? Audience resistance?
Once you are done with your interview, summarize your findings in a 250-400 word original posting to this discussion forum. Do NOT simply copy and paste your
interviewee’s responses into the posting. If you are directly quoting, put the statements in quotation marks. Otherwise, put the interviewee’s statements into your
own words. Also, do not organize your response in Q/A format. Integrate the responses into easy-to-read and organized paragarphs.
Once you have completed your posting, respond to at least two of your peers’ postings. Each response should be at least 50-100 words and in your response, comment on
your peers’ posts’
Development and Organization (Is it an organized response to the prompt?),
Layout (It is easy to read/scan quickly?),
Style and Mechanics (Is the tone formal? Grammar and mechanical errors?), and
Improvement and Revision (Offer at least one suggestion for improvement or revision for future assignments).
REMEMBER: Your original posts and responses must be on topic, written in complete sentences, formal in tone, and constructive. Any posts or responses that fail to
meet these guidelines will be deleted.
Finally, only two responses to an original thread. If a student already has two responses, please move on to another student. Please include the word count at the
bottom of each original post and response.
