Some factors that were mentions in “People Like Us” that causes individuals to group themselves together are economic status, background, level of education, and geography. How to Mary The Rich related to whom you marry and that Americans tend more and more to marry people with education levels similar to their own, and befriend people with background similar to their own, it is human nature. They think that if you are rich you have the best of all things. I also viewed both clips, Friends in Low Place and Trouble in Paradise. Among the two clips, class is the main issue which makes them who they are in their society. In the clip Friends in Low Place, various people are compelled to go to a lower class bar instead of a high class bar in the city. The differing of people that goes to this bar range from 26 to 69 years old. These people in the bar rate themselves as lower class. Unfortunately, they do not have jobs that pay much wage. This does not make a difference to them; they are happy and satisfied with what they have. These people feel comfortable around each other at the bar. For instance, they do not have to pretend who they are, or pretend to be somebody they’re not. In the clip Trouble in Paradise, the couple is soon to be married. The male is Jewish and from middle to low class. The female is from a high class and is Protestant. The couple is from different class. The female made it very clear to the interview that it is known they are from different classes. The male is obviously aware that they are from different classes. He does not seem to mind what class he is in nor what class she comes from. The two clips have many differences about them. The difference between the clips is class. Friends in Low Places presents themselves as a class that likes to have fun without having to dress up in a dress or tux to socialize. In Trouble in Paradise, the female presented herself as higher than any other class.

What has this world too? Why is judgment everywhere in our society? It is amazing that there is some many different cultures in one city. In the Opening Tease video, all they did was judge. There was a good example if racial groups in this video. For example the rich and the poor. They are set apart because the rich has money and the poor does not. Just because someone does’t have money does’t mean that they aren’t a good person. Just because someone dresses like a slob does’t mean they don’t have money, maybe they just don’t like to flaunt it. A great example is the woman that said ” I would never drive a Ford, because it is probably stolen. This is horrible what the society has came too. In the video, All you need is cash they talked about if you don’t have money that you aren’t anything. For example if you are a electrician you are not good enough even know they are out working hard they aren’t good enough? Ridiculous! If you don’t have money you are not a big fish? These women in this video need to have a reality check they aren’t better than anyone else. They think that if you are rich you have the best of all things. I believe you can have a great life and family being middle class or even poor. The video that mostly struck my attention was the one, How to Marry the Rich. Why do these people resort to this kind of things? What, they are going to marry someone just for there money so the are more expected and not marry them because they are deeply in love with them. All of this is twisted. The rich are very prejudice when it comes to the middle class or the poor. There is no reason for the middle or poor class to feel less then the rich. Money isn’t everything, the rich society needs a reality check.

People Like Us puts in plain sight the stereotypes we, as a society, are all thinking about. The opening video shows people looking at a picture of different people and guessing what class they are associated with, which shows that people can be placed in a certain class by others simply by how they look. They interviewed a girl at a high school, who would point out what kind of person she classified other students as they walked by her. She determined if they were “preppy, dorky, loser, or ghetto” simply by the way they looked or dressed. This makes me wonder how she viewed herself, since I actually thought she looked no different than the students that were walking by her.
We, as Americans, want to say that we are all about equality and freedom, which is the ideal way to look at each other; however, as we can see throughout the video, this is simply not the case. Instead of focusing on being divided by race, religion, or other things, many people focus on how we are divided by social class or economic standing. “All You Need is Cash” takes viewers through how the upper-class view themselves, how they achieve the place that they are, and what makes them upper-class, be it money, popularity, or other things like that. In “Gnomes R Us,” we see that everyone is trying to be “better off” than they first began. People who, perhaps, grew up in a lower class like putting lawn ornaments in their yards because it’s something they didn’t have before but now have the means to obtain. This, to them, shows class and that they are better well-off than they used to be. “Trouble in Paradise” shows a story of a man and woman who are engaged to be married, but they have come from different class levels. The woman comes from upper-class society, and you can tell in the video that she is very aware and proud of that. She asked her fiance, when putting their engagement announcement in the newspaper, if they could say that he was from a different town so it would seem as their class level was a little closer. She seemed ashamed of where he came from because it was lower than her, but he seemed proud of his roots.
