I’m doing a mini project on what are the actual implications to UK consumers of heavy consumption of fizzy drinks, with particular reference to children. Its going too look at how heavy advertising and the availability of them are effecting the UK’s health. I have already done a brief literature review on the area, but would like:
1 Theoretical framework and methodology (perhaps cost/benefit analyis or triple bottom line?)
2 Empirical data collected/diversity of sources
3 Analysis of data/sources.
4 Critical and reflective approach
Its important that it comments on the likely health costs to the nation (eg. externalities)
It may be a good idea to do some made up primary research on consumers views on the area as well.
The main criteria i have been given is as follows:
Criteria of assessment for project work
Your project will include desk based research (taken largely from secondary sources such as books, journals and government publications) and/or fieldwork involving you collecting primary data perhaps via a questionnaire or interviews. The essential quality of the work is that it has an element of originality in some major element of the research such as in the application of a theoretical framework or in the collection of primary data. As an indication of the basis of marking, a feedback form is included below.
As a guide to the standard expected, to achieve a first (i.e. 70% and above) you would need to demonstrate a sound grasp of relevant theory, informed by wide reading especially of current literature. If your project involves fieldwork, this must be rigorous and you should be able to explain anomalies in your results. You would also be able to demonstrate that you have reflected on your work and its shortcomings, highlighting how this work might be improved if repeated.
A mark of 65% (mid-point of the upper second class range) will require you to show evidence of accessing, analysing and concisely reporting a wide range of issues, theories and data relevant to your chosen topic.
A competent project, but one which does not extend beyond materials covered in lectures and seminars, would be awarded a mark around 55%.
